Past few years

Over the past few years, I’ve had a fair amount to say, including long threads on certain platforms. For various reasons, which will become clear with time, I’ve had a very large personal interesting in COVID and it’s ongoing effects on a personal level, and wider societal implications (for want of a better phrase).

Since the site I’ve been using for discussion has … an ephemeral nature .. and a propensity in recent months to make access difficult, I’ll start copying some of the more important threads over here.

I don’t know how often I’ll post here, or if this will be yet another one of those “Right, I’m restarting blogging posts”. But I’m going to allow myself shorter posts as well as longer form things.

Things on my mind though at the moment include:

• Actor-like systems, Kamaelia type systems and the intersection - which is the sort of thing Guild really is.
• COVID
• LongCOVID
• Re-teaching myself C++ from the perspective of unlearning C++ as I used to use it - and relearning it from a “Modern C++” perspective. (Yes, I’ve been using C++ in a variety of work related projects over the past 20-25 years, but it’s been very much “pre C++11”, and there’s been a ton of really interesting/fun improvements in C++11, C++14, C++17, C++20 and more on the way, and modern idiomatic C++ is almost a different language. So why not just treat it as that?

That’s in addition to my personal projects of Guild, Pyxie, etc and others.

Additionally, I’m using tools like pandoc much more extensively these days - even using it to create the html for posts in this blog, and there are likely to be aspects of this I’ll capture here too.

Ultimately, the core reason that I’ve not been posting here is there has been an awful lot of relatively personal crap going on which has been pretty time consuming, but I’ve not really stopped writing. So, maybe, expect to see more appear in coming weeks. Or maybe not. Life has had a really nasty habit of getting in the way.
